Dear Christian Friends,
Choice Christian greetings to you in the Name of our Master and Lord and soon-coming Saviour & King, Jesus the Christ! Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His Name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. 1 Chronicles 16:8
In the February “Light” I let you know that construction on the new school facility had begun. I am pleased to say that by God's help and grace, we are now nearly finished! We have had 3 teams to “come over and help us” with a fourth planning to come next month. The Lord enabled us to have the building far enough along to have the Secondary graduation and end-of-school program/ Kindergarten graduation in the new building! Congratulations and God's best to all the graduates! We pray that the new facilities will not only benefit children enrolled at HLCA, but will also be used for VBS ministry, youth camps, seminars, and more as God leads. You can see pictures of the progress at www.harbourlightradio.org.
In the days leading up to the graduations and program, we had an unusual number of major failures of equipment. On Sunday, June 14, the A/C in the transmitter room failed causing the transmitter to overheat, damaging a capacitor. I replaced it with another capacitor which looked OK but was salvaged from a previous overheating situation some years earlier. That capacitor failed catastrophically on Tuesday night (the 16th). I worked through the night to clean and repair the soot and damage. I did not have any more capacitors except some 40-year-old (?!) caps that I had salvaged before we came to Carriacou. They “just happened” to be the right value even though physically larger. A melted cable prevented me from getting the transmitter back on sooner, but the Lord helped me find it after two hours of searching for that problem. Praise the Lord we were back on the air by 5AM Wednesday! Meanwhile the little generator was having trouble starting in the mornings because the glow plugs were burned out. So the newly serviced bigger generator was put online. Thursday morning I replaced the glow plugs on the little generator and that afternoon it overheated and shut down. So, I put the bigger generator back online. I could see that the little generator's radiator needed cleaning so “that must be the problem,” I thought, “we'll clean that as soon as we get a chance.” We ran on the big generator until Monday morning when it shut down with a problem in the electric set – it was super humid and condensation developed in the exciter. I could not get it dry so decided to do the service on the little generator's radiator. That complete, I cranked it up and immediately smelled a burning smell – condensation in that electric set! I had to run to town to buy some electrical cleaning spray and after a “bath,” its windings were happy. Applying the spray on the big generator did not make it run. I've still got to trouble shoot that problem. Later that day, the little generator shut down again on an “over temp” alarm. Upon investigation, I found that the temperature sensor is faulty. We have never seen so many major equipment problems happen in such a short space of time! Please pray for wisdom to handle each difficulty.
I would like to conclude (for now) the thoughts I've been sharing with you about worship that glorifies God. 1) Worship that glorifies God is a life laid down as a living sacrifice in obedience to the Word of God. Romans 12:1-2 2) Worship that glorifies God must be defined according to God's word, not by what I think. Jeremiah 29:19-20a 3) Worship that glorifies God must be demonstrated by saying all God's words. Acts 20:26-31 4) Worship that glorifies God is displayed by recognizing, identifying, and not listening to false prophets. 1 John 4:1-6 5) Worship that glorifies God is separated from the world. 1 Peter 1:14-16 6) Worship that glorifies God dares to contend earnestly for the faith. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude verses 3-4) "Lascivious" is a word synonymous with the words lustful or lewd or unruly. A quick look at the titles and lyrics of the music this world loves and of what the composers themselves say they are communicating with the sounds they create will reveal that it is nothing short of lascivious in every sense of the word. It is abusing the grace of God for Christian people to “glory in” ANYTHING that sounds like that to “worship” God. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid! (Romans 6:1-2) It is a leaven that permeates so-called Christian worship today. How much of the world's “leaven” does it take to spoil the whole lump? 1 Corinthians 5:6-7 says Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. The only thing for Christian people to do with the lascivious leaven of the sounds this world loves is to purge it out! 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 says Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. Can we honestly say that the sound of the popular music of this world is not evil? Can we honestly say that the popular "Christian" music today does not sound like the popular music of the world? Is it not, then, – at the very least – a little "leavened?" Can “holy” words somehow purify the lascivious sound of the world's music? Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. (Haggai 2:11-13) Lascivious music defiles the holy words! God says we cannot combine the holy with the unholy and end up with something that is holy and acceptable unto Him! God cannot - and will not - accept such an offering. Verse 14 goes on to say Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. We need to look well into this matter so that all of our worship truly brings glory to God.
Thank you again for your vital part in this work! Thank you for your prayers, your faithful, sacrificial giving, your interest, and encouragement. We humbly thank the Lord for you! There is no work being done anywhere in the world greater than...
